What prep is required to paint over semi-gloss or can I just paint over it with another semi gloss paint?

to paint over semi-gloss paint you need to sand the painted surface, then apply what is called a ';deglosser'; (available at the paint store), then sand again with a finer grit sandpaper, prime and paint with the final color you've picked. if you paint directly over the surface of the semi-gloss, the new paint won't stick well and will peel off rather quickly (within 6 months). What prep is required to paint over semi-gloss or can I just paint over it with another semi gloss paint?
You really need to use primer first to help cover the original color and prep the area for new paint. If you don't, you'll have the original color show through and you'll probably have problems with peelingWhat prep is required to paint over semi-gloss or can I just paint over it with another semi gloss paint?
Make sure it's clean and you use a good quality paint. Priming is only necessary if you are going from a really dark color to a really light color - but even then I good quality paint should cover it.
just use primer, water base, its not a big deal... and yes u can use another gloss or semi gloss to cover it... been in the business for 15 years
